This is a projection-based public art piece exploring the nature of public opinion. It is based on the historical events surrounding the 2016 statue protest and relocation: Henry Moore's Reclining Figure, originally planned for placement in front of Butler Library, was moved to the front of Havemeyer Hall following student protests, while many people may remain entirely unaware of this. I do not wish to frame this as being about feminism, conservatism, or campus protest specifically; rather, I am more interested in discussing how what we consider "public opinion" is, in reality, often driven or even controlled by a small group of people.

For this reason, I employ the purple-and-black checkerboard "missing texture" pattern used in game engines. First, this pattern itself may function as a kind of coded text recognizable only to a specific subset of people, reflecting how the entire relocation event was known to only a small group. At the same time, this pattern was originally designed to be a simple yet eye-catching marker for locating missing textures, which gives it a symbolic quality: what is absent becomes all the more conspicuous. So, exactly ten years after the event, I conceived this work of projecting the pattern onto the statue that has been forgotten in its corner.
